The LEGO Group

26 x 14 x 5 cm

Geoscientist Ellen Kooijman brought her own profession’s spirit of discovery to LEGO Ideas with this 152-piece set and its 3 minifigures. A palaeontologist examines a dinosaur skeleton, an astronomer studies the sky through a telescope, and a chemist works at her laboratory bench.

Known online as Alatariel, Kooijman originally proposed the project as the “Female Minifigure Set”, aiming to give female LEGO characters a wider range of interesting roles. That ambition gives these three compact scenes a story beyond their size: a practising scientist helping shape how science appears in play. Now retired, Research Institute is a distinctive early Ideas release with particular appeal for science enthusiasts and collectors of fan-created designs.
