biography
Pietro Lucchini, also known as Pietro Antonio Lucchini, was an Italian painter born in Bergamo on March 7, 1799, and died in Bologna on November 8, 1883. He trained at the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo between 1813 and 1817, where he was a pupil of the neoclassical painter Giuseppe Diotti. After his studies, he furthered his training in Rome between 1820 and 1824, a period that marked a crucial turning point in his artistic career. In 1824, he married Celestina Dupin, daughter of a famous choreographer and sister of Antonietta, wife of the renowned singer Domenico Donzelli, thus entering the world of opera, which deeply influenced his artistic production.

Lucchini is best known for his historical paintings and numerous portraits of prominent figures of his time. Among his most notable works is the painting "Interno con gentildonna," signed and dated Milan 1842, which demonstrates his skill in portraiture and interior scenes. In the 1830s, he undertook a series of travels that took him to Paris, London, Vienna, Constantinople, and Milan, where he established himself as one of the most appreciated portraitists of the era. His works are present in private and public collections and continue to attract interest from experts and collectors.

Despite the scarcity of biographical documentation, Pietro Lucchini remains a significant figure in 19th-century Italian painting, thanks to the quality of his works and his connection with the artistic and cultural world of his time.
