The Madonna and Child with Saint John, XVI - XVII secolo

Oil on panel
Ø 93 cm. With frame
The painting is a reinterpretation of the so-called Madonna Aldobrandini by Raffaello Sanzio, now in the National Gallery in London. The dimensions are much larger than the original and the round format replaces the rectangular one . The colours of the Virgin's robes are different but the main differences concern the background: the green drape instead of the window, the vase of flowers absent in Raffaello's work and the position of the Madonna's legs. Finally, it should be noted that in our painting Jesus hands St. John a rose instead of a carnation.
