Chinese ivory carving, Qing Dynasty, late 19th century

Height x width: 7.5 x 10.6 cm. Weight: 147 g
made of elephant ivory (Elephas maximus Linnaeus, 1758 or Loxodonta africana Blumenbach, 1797)
It depicts an elderly male figure, probably a sage or symbolic figure, seated in a relaxed posture. His expression is well defined, with serene features and a face adorned with a long beard, a traditional symbol of wisdom and longevity. He wears a robe decorated with stylised carvings and motifs representing the attention to detail typical of workmanship of that period.
The object stands on a rectangular base engraved with Chinese characters.
