French solid silver mustard pot, Paris, 1798-1809

Height x width x depth: 10.5 x 9.7 x 6 cm. Total weight: 264.6 g. Net silver weight: 170.3 g.
Cylindrical in shape, resting on three claw feet, the body is openworked with geometric patterns adorned with floral elements. The hinged lid features an acorn-shaped finial. Includes a blue glass container.
Fully hallmarked with the marks used in Paris from 1798 to 1809 for the first standard silver (950/1000). Also present is the boar’s head mark (poinçon d’essai), used in France since 1797 to identify silver pieces submitted for preliminary assay, without official status. Variants exist with the head facing either left or right, and a number "1" above the boar’s head. Its exact function remains debated, but it appears to have been used for testing items prior to official hallmarking.
