purple ebony (Dalbergia cearensis) and rosewood (Dalbergia spp) dresser with marble top, finely inlaid with floral and geometric motifs, in the central part of the drawers inlaid musical instruments, gilt bronze applications on the uprights. Signed Jean Holthausen and stamped JME( Jurande des Menuisieres Ebénistes).

Literature: Jean Holthausen is a Parisian cabinetmaker from Germany. He became Master on August 17, 1764. He established his workshop in Paris rue Traversière. His furniture is often in rosewood or violet wood or amaranth marquetry.
