This exquisite painting has been attributed to Carlo Dolci by Professor Sandro Bellesi, who recognizes in it the refined execution and luminous clarity typical of the master’s devotional works. The youthful archangel, identifiable as Gabriel by the white lilies, is rendered with Dolci’s meticulous realism and smooth, porcelain-like finish. Closely related to the Announcing Angel in the Uffizi Galleries, the work likely dates to the early 1650s, during the artist’s mature period.
