Femme au figues, 1899

Etching, 270 x 420 mm (plate), 480 x 640 mm (sheet). Posthumous edition of 400 copies, produced after the plate was defaced. Third state of 3, with an invisible cancellation mark. Augustoni 15, Kornfeld 25.

The print was initially attributed to Armand Seguin (1869–1903), French painter and engraver and friend of Gauguin, but it is now recognized as a collaboration: Gauguin engraved the female figure and the foreground fruits, while Seguin executed the background and handled the plate biting.

Very fine impression on paper with Canson & Mongolfier watermark, France. Excellent condition, with wide margins preserved. Blind stamp of Libreria Prandi at lower right.
