Portraits of sumo wrestlers were very popular collectibles during the Edo and Meiji periods in Japan.
The wrestler is depicted during a ring entrance ceremony, wearing an elaborate ceremonial apron called a kesho-mawashi. The print includes text identifying the wrestler as Kiyomi.
