Pair of sculptures depicting lions, Italy, second half of the 19th century
Height x width x depth: 15,5 x 20 x 7 cm. Total weight: 1549.5 g
cast in bronze and finely gilded, depicted in a dynamic pose: crouching on their front legs, with their mouths open, while their paws rest on spheres, symbols of dominion and vigilant strength. The lions rest on elegant rectangular pedestals made of igneous stone, with ebonised wood cladding and faux tortoiseshell panels, in a decorative style reminiscent of luxury furniture and objects found in studies or art galleries.
