Chinese porcelain cup/glass with Italian silver mounting, China, Jingdezhen, mid-18th century - Rome, 19th century, after 1815

Height x diameter cup: 18.5 x 8 cm. Height x diameter base: 18.5 x 9.5 cm. Weight: 416 g
Chinese export porcelain cup (or glass), decorated in underglaze blue and iron red in the Imari style. The slightly flared body is adorned with a lobed reserve featuring a stylised oriental landscape comprising a pavilion, tree and rocky elements, surrounded by scattered polychrome flowers; continuous decorative band below the rim.
The porcelain is set in a silver mounting consisting of shaped side posts, two rosettes applied to the sides, a turned shaft with plant motifs and a circular stepped base with a leaf frieze in relief.

The mounting is hallmarked with the chamber mark used in the Papal States, and more precisely in Rome - after 1815 - for silver objects with a fineness of 10.16 ounces (889/1000), represented by the crossed keys of St. Peter under the liturgical umbrella and with the silversmith's mark ‘Risso’.
