Solid silver entrée dish, Paris, 1854-1879
Height x width x depth: 17 x 26 x 17 cm. Weight: 977 g.
round in shape with a snap-on lid. The lid is topped with a pine cone-shaped knob and features a radiating leaf motif underneath. On either side of the bowl are two square vertical handles decorated with leaf motifs. A thin decorative frieze of palmettes encircles the edge of the lid.
950/1000 sterling silver, hallmarked with the marks in use in Paris since 1838, bearing the mark for large objects in Paris, with the “head of Minerva,” silversmith Antoine Cosson (1854-1879).
