A Nichols Art Deco carpet, China, 1920 circa
400 x 301 cm
This very decorativ Nichols carpet is decorated with an archaic dragon, a phoenix and varied vase and flower designs that stay out of the red background field. A large yellowish border creates a contrasting frame. The Nichols company worked in China form 1920-40ies, trying to saddisfy the growing demand for Art Deco style carpets for market of the US and Europe. The piece are caratterized by vivid colors and expressive, often asymmetric design features.
Very small localized lower pile areas, all over well preserved in good pile.
