Flambé porcelain garlic-mouth vase, Jingdezhen, China, 20th century
Height 37 cm
This vase is a reproduction of a Chinese sang de boeuf vase with a garlic mouth. It is hand-turned on a potter's wheel by skilled artists, using traditional techniques learned from their families and passed down through the generations. Sang de boeuf was one of several new flambé glazes, characterized by unpredictable yet highly decorative and variable effects.
