The work depicts a scene of daily life during the summer in Beijing: a man with birds and children playing with crickets. The artist is Beijing's leading artist of traditional scenes. Ma Haifang employed a classic style of traditional Chinese painting called "Boneless Painting." However, he broke away from that convention with his use of color. His works pulsate with reds, oranges, yellows, and greens. Private collection Rome
