Mechanical cash register Model 592X-ELF, US, 20th century
Height x width x depth: 75 x 75 x 50 cm.
Wooden base with four drawers, each producing a different bell sound. Made for the Danish market, this was the first electrified model. Model 592X-ELF.
The term “National”, in the context of cash registers, refers to the National Cash Register Company, founded in 1884 by John H. Patterson. The company originated from the acquisition of the business and patents for the first mechanical cash register, invented by James Ritty in 1879.
It later became a multinational corporation, which still operates today in the retail and financial services sectors, now known as NCR Corporation.
