Jupiter. From an archaeological model. Black patinated bronze. 19th century.
30 x 16 x 14 cm
Interesting sculpture derived from an archaeological subject unknown to me.
Despite the lack of distinctive signs, it is almost certainly a representation of Jupiter.
Perhaps in his left hand he held lightning bolts, the symbol of the Greek god.
Even the archaeological patina, rather rough and bituminous, makes us imagine it as very ancient.
The very pronounced physicality and refinement of the chisel make it an interesting and very decorative sculpture.
