the spherical dial is surmounted by a gilded bronze band that forms a knot in two rings of intertwined laurel leaves, a decorative motif typical of the neoclassical repertoire. The Roman numerals for the hours are applied in gilded bronze directly to the surface of the sphere, as are the hands, which are also gilded. The spherical dial is supported by three gilded bronze cherubs, while the marble base is encircled by a continuous gilded bronze garland featuring plant motifs. Signed on the inside, on the movement plate, “Daubrée” (the final ‘E’ is worn away), with a stamp bearing the inscription “Medaille D'Argent, Vincet Cie-1855.”
