A ciborium lid made of embossed and engraved silver depicting scenes from the life of Christ, Italy, 18th century
Height × diameter: 20 x 16 cm
Conical in shape, it is entirely decorated with scenes from the life and Passion of Christ, arranged in three distinct narrative registers, separated by plant motifs that also adorn the lower band in a continuous festoon.
The three scenes depicted are: the Last Supper, with Christ and the Apostles gathered around the table within an arched architectural setting; the Agony in the Garden, with Christ kneeling in prayer, comforted by the angel who appears to him bearing the chalice; and finally, the Deposition, showing the body of Christ with the grieving Virgin Mary kneeling to his right.
The pyx is mounted on a pedestal display stand.
