Deposition, XVIII secolo

Oil on canvas
Height x width: 240 x 240 cm
The painting is an early copy, of similar dimensions, of Raphael Sanzio’s famous masterpiece, now housed at the Borghese Gallery in Rome. It is set in a contemporary frame carved with cherubs and seraphim. On the back of the frame, on the left, there are two hinges added in the 19th century; the painting was likely used to conceal a door.
The painting is accompanied by a technical-scientific report of diagnostic investigations carried out by CE.S.AR. Centro studi archeometrici.
