The scene depicts a triumphal procession: in the center, seated on a marble pedestal, is a crowned female figure (an allegory of Rome or Victory), with her arm outstretched in a gesture of command or welcome, against a backdrop of red drapery and a classical colonnade. At her feet is a group of figures: a woman in a dark dress seated with a child, a male figure wearing a helmet, and on the right, a group of chained prisoners. On the left is a nude youth, while in the background one can glimpse a harbor with masts and flags, and a tumultuous crowd.
