A circular fan painted in ink on silk by Wang Yuanzhao (mid-19th century), depicting a landscape within a frame. China, mid-19th-20th century
Height 62 cm; width 42 cm
The painting depicts a central mountain with soft, rounded forms, a typical element of traditional Chinese landscape painting. In the lower section of the work, we find a refined contrast between the dark treetops with rounded leaves and the thin, bare branches, recalling the refined and detailed style of the Song Dynasty school.
The diagonal band of fog creates a strong sense of depth, isolating the mountains from the lower part.
