Robe fragment with embroidered silk rank badge decorated with a floral medallion and crane. China, Qing Dynasty, first half of the 19th century.
Height 88.7 cm; width 47 cm
The robe was originally worn by a first-class civil servant, the highest rank. The colorful diagonal wave motif at the bottom represents loyalty to the Emperor and the stability of the nation. The crane symbolizes immortality and honesty, surrounded by brightly embroidered flowers and butterflies, typical of the artifact from the first half of the 19th century.
