A CÉLADON GLAZED CERAMIC CIRCULAR FLASK
Korea, Joseon dynasty, 16th-17th century
24 cm high
Provenance: ambassador Francesco Rausi.
This shape - well known in China - was very popular in Korea for at least the entire first half of the Joseon dynasty, used to contain alcoholic beverages.
Due to its austere appearance and the elegance resulting from a simple linear shape in combination with an organic glaze, this flask perfectly embodies the aesthetic ideal of the Confucian elite.
