A Greek icon depicting Madonna and Child, 17th century
        	Height x width x depth: 45 x 32.5 x 3.5 cm.

tempera on panel, depicts the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus.
The Madonna wears the traditional red mantle, adorned with golden borders and stylised decorations, and has a solemn and meditative expression. The Child is seated on the Virgin's left arm, while she makes a blessing gesture with her right hand. The richly gilded background, probably made of gold leaf, is a distinctive element of Byzantine and post-Byzantine icons. The haloes surrounding the heads of the Virgin and Child are decorated with punched motifs, giving depth and symbolic value. The robes are treated with stylised folds and golden highlights, in accordance with the iconographic tradition.
The visual language recalls the Byzantine and post-Byzantine tradition, characterised by a hieratic aura and strong religious symbolism.
Within modern wooden frame.
