Ivory-inlaid travel desk, India, 19th century
Height x width x depth: 24 x 32 x 11 cm. Weight 2285 g.
rectangular in shape, resting on four lion-shaped feet, with a hinged lid. It presents a decoration made of sadeli micromosaic, a traditional decorative technique that combines the art of micromosaic with intricate and complex geometric motifs. The lid on the inside is covered with purple velvet and reveals several compartments with plug-in lids that feature the same type of decoration as on the outside.
There are two handles on the sides and a lock and key on the front.
