Deposition in the Sepulchre

Pace mounted plaque missing handle, brown patina; mm 166.1 x 113.7; gr 411.5.

Jesus Christ, seated on an ornate sarcophagus, is supported by Saint John and the Magdalene. Behind the Madonna, with clasped hands, there is a Pious woman; on the left, with his hands resting on the Madonna, there is Nicodemus; on the right, Joseph of Arimathea. In the tympanum, God the Father with open arms; aedicule with fluted columns flanked by volutes; shaped cymatium with a cherub's head; base with the inscription PIETAS\ ADOMINTA in a cartouche.
