The family's son is at the center of the painting, kneeling before his parents at the top of the scene to honor ancestor worship and the Chinese New Year or Spring Festival ceremony. In the centre, the image of the dog indicating the zodiacal year to which the period corresponds. Below, the central door of the house opens onto traditional scenes that occur during New year holidays.
