French solid silver cruet, Paris, 1777

Height x width x depth: 21 x 28 x 12 cm. Total gross weight: 1655 gr. Net weight of silver: about 935 gr.

Oval in shape, resting on four small feet decorated with vegetal motifs and grape clusters, which are also repeated along the edges and on the bottle holders. The recurring vine motif, gilded, also appears on the two cut glass bottles with gold applications. The cruets are fitted with two stoppers featuring vine-shaped handles.

At the center is the noble coat of arms of the De Marle family, heirs of the house of Thomas de Coucy-Marle (ca. 1065 – 1130), son of Enguerrand I of Coucy and Adele of Marle, who was Lord of Coucy and took part in the First Crusade.

Hallmarked with French hallmarks used in Paris in 1777, fermier Jean Baptiste Fouache.
