German solid silver centerpiece, Hanau, late 19th century
Height x width x depth: 12 x 26 x 14 cm. Weight: 440 g approx.
Ovoid body, embossed and chiselled with mythological scenes and garlands with flowers and fruit, with handles with floral motives; supports on four pierced feet with plant and floral motives.
Hallmarked with the marks for silver in use in Hanau in the 19th century, and with the hallmarks of silversmith Georg Roth & Comp. (Hanauer Silberwaren-Manufaktur), founded in 1891, which simulate old French hallmarks from the 17th and 18th centuries.
