Height x width x depth: 25 x 21 x 10.5 cm. Weight: 512 g.
rectangular base centred by the figure of an Indigenous, stylised upper part on which is placed horizontally an Emu (Dromaius novaehollandiae) egg painted in the centre with a faunal scene depicting an Emu and a peacock. The peacock, in particular, was a Victorian symbol of beauty and vanity. These creations fall into the category of “exotic curiosities” or colonial souvenirs, highly appreciated during the Victorian era, when the British Empire had strong ties with Australia.
