Brother Luce the Hermit with the widow and her daughter, XVIII secolo
Oil on canvas
cm. 30x23,5. Framed
The painting is closely related to a large group of works (paintings, drawings and engravings) derived from La Fontaine's tales. The licentious subject featuring the hermit Friar Luce, inspired by Boccaccio, was repeatedly replicated by Subleyras and his followers (including Hubert Robert). The versions recognised as autographs are now preserved in the Musรฉe du Louvre in Paris and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
