with painted wooden cues, with floral decorations and with hand-painted silk with floral motifs, set in a gilded frame and red fabric background.
Fans of this type, made of carved and pierced bone, were particularly popular in France in the late 18th and 19th centuries. France, with Paris as its main centre, stood out in Europe for the production of luxury fans, supported by a well-established tradition in the decorative arts and the craftsmanship of highly specialised artisans.
