Kirman ‘vase’ fragment, late 16th century, asymmetrical knot. 85x90 cm. On a midnight blue background is generously decorated with an elaborate floral design. The composition is a harmonious tangle of Shah Abbas palmettes, developed from the symbolic oriental lotus and peony flowers, and curved leaves. The main border is ruby red covered with palmettes and cypresses, which is accompanied by a double tendril wave on a light background inside and on a blue background outside.
