Miniature presentation trumeau, Louis XV, Northern Italy, 18th century
Height x width x depth: 101 x 53 x 28 cm.
rare miniature model of a trumeau, probably made by a northern Italian cabinetmaker as a demonstrative prototype for the client, intended to present the structure and finish of a full-size piece of furniture. The form faithfully echoes the typical features of Piedmontese or Lombard trumeaux: lower part with a wavy front and three rows of drawers, upper body with a flap and riser with two mirrored doors, molded crowning with double curl.
The surface is decorated with paint imitating fine woods and leaf motifs in baroque style. The interior, probably equipped, re-proposes the functional division of the original specimens.
A rare and highly collectible specimen, evidence of 18th-century craftsmanship and the high technical level attained by cabinetmakers of the time.
