D'Annunzio Gabriele (1863-1938), Fiume, lettera autografa, 1920
cm.22x27
Three-page autograph letter, complete with original envelope. Sheets with the logo of the ITALIAN REGENCY OF CARNARO - THE COMMANDER
Addressed to Commander Tana, the letter reads, "My dear Commander, I am saddened to know that you intend to resign, while in our cordial conversation yesterday you showed that you understood and appreciated the reasons that prevent me—at this very sad moment—from letting the MIRABELLO and the ABBA depart. I hope you will give the City and me the proof of friendship that perhaps we deserve from you. Could the two ships not be repaired in the Carnaro shipyards? Here is an opportunity—for the Government—to gain forgiveness for the many cruelties committed against the faithful Fiume!—Try, if you can, with the heart of a comrade, to spare me at least this pain among the many that already oppress me.—Yours, GABRIELE D'ANNUNZIO—Fiume, October 30, 1920"
