This elegant painting, in excellent state of preservation, has been attributed to Pacecco De Rosa by Prof. Nicola Spinosa, who recognizes the refined style and emotional depth typical of the artist’s mature period. The Magdalene, shown in meditation with a skull and a gesture of repentance, reflects the painter’s soft luminism and naturalistic sensibility. Executed around the mid-17th century, the work reveals De Rosa’s dialogue with Massimo Stanzione and the classicism of Guido Reni and Domenichino.
