This refined Portrait of a Gentleman can be attributed to Pietro Ligari based on its close resemblance to the artist’s Self-Portrait in the Museo di Storia e Arte of Sondrio, datable to around 1720. The architectural elements refer to Ligari’s dual activity as painter and architect, while the handling of the face recalls the Portrait of his daughter Vittoria, showing clear Lombard and Venetian influences.
