Sterling silver tray, early 20th century

Height x width x depth: 4 x 52 x 41.5 cm. Weight: 1210 g.
oval in shape, embossed and chiselled, characterised by a large, shiny surface surrounded by a richly worked rim. The edge features a continuous decorative motif of scrolls, floral racemes and an outer corded border. In the centre is an oval medallion in slight relief, finely decorated with phytomorphic motifs or scrolls. 

On the reverse side is the inscription ‘ANCTAE MARIAE ANGELORVM’, probably referring to the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Angels and Martyrs in Rome, or to the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Angels in Assisi, both dedicated to the Virgin Mary and the angels.
