A pair of panels from the Way of the Cross, Central Italy, 18th century
Height x width x depth: 86 x 45 x 7 cm.
Carved wood, gilded and painted in tempera depicting stations of the Cross: Station I: “Jesus condemned to death.” Station V: “Jesus helped by Simon of Cyrene.” Each panel is finely carved in relief, surmounted by sculptural groups of seated cherubs, with Roman numerals engraved at the top. Late 18th century.
