Flora bending over, weaving flowers into her hair, a classic nineteenth-century figure, signed on the base "Carpeaux".
Literature:
Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux (1827–1875) was one of the most important French sculptors of the 19th century, known for his vibrant and realistic style, straddling Neoclassicism and Romanticism. A pupil of François Rude and winner of the Prix de Rome in 1854, he also worked as the official sculptor for Napoleon III.
