Coin cabinet with semi-precious stones Grand Ducal workshop for the Brancaleoni family of Rocca Leonella, Italy, Late 17th century, early 18th century

made of ebony (Diospyros spp.), semi-precious stones, semi-precious stone inlay panels, and gilded bronze. The upper part consists of six drawers with a front panel of semi-precious stones decorated with flowers and birds. In the center is a large door in the shape of a portal with two stone columns and, in between, a tree with fruit and leaves on which a colorful parrot stands out, all in semi-precious stones. Below the portal is a strip of semi-precious stones of different types and shapes. The interior of the temple compartment is lined with leather and decorated with a mirror with columns and a gilded bronze entablature. The lower part, which is not contemporary with the upper part (20th century), consists of a piece of furniture whose upper part, in the style of a table drum, is decorated with a plaque in semi-precious stones with a bird on a branch, garlands, and a gilded bronze cherub. On the sides are two large scrolls in gilded wood with a beautiful design. In the center of the piece is a large inlaid hard stone panel, framed in gilded bronze and a cherub's head, depicting a tree laden with fruit and leaves on which rests a parrot with richly colored plumage, with four white flowers at the corners. The base of the cabinet is decorated with semi-precious stones surrounded by gilded bronze decorations. The legs are flattened toupie legs in gilded wood. The cabinet is embellished with an ebony lid, decorated with semi-precious stone inlay panels depicting birds on flowering branches. The piece was made by the Grand Ducal Workshop of Semi-Precious Stones for the Brancaleoni della Rocca Leonella family, whose coat of arms is engraved and painted on the back of the upper door.
