Old Sheffield Samovar, early 19th century
Height x width x depth: 42 x 32 x 37 cm. Weight: 6500 g.
The main body, which is globular in shape, rests on an elaborate cross-shaped base supported by four cast feet decorated with curling motifs and acanthus leaves. The entire structure is characterised by rich Rococo Revival ornamentation: the sides of the vase are embellished with voluminous masks that also serve as attachments for the side handles. The spout emerges from an elaborate front cartouche. The vase is closed by a lid topped with a knob handle, and the whole piece highlights the taste for opulence and decoration of the early Victorian period. A small ladle completes the set. The stove is not included.
