A fine example of 17th-18th century sculpture made from fragments of classical sculptures.
In this specific case, a beautiful marble head from the late Roman Republic (1st century BC), probably depicting Julius Caesar, was mounted by an anonymous sculptor of the 17th or 18th century on a bust made of high-quality antique yellow breccia marble.
Attached is the front and back of a photograph dated I/II/37, which certifies its origin from the furnishings of Palazzo Rigi Luperti in Cagli.
