Wall Holy Water Stoup, Italy, 19th Century

this small devotional piece features a hemispherical, fluted basin surmounted by a cartouche with a raised Latin cross, crowned at the top by two winged cherub heads delicately modelled with serene expressions. On either side, scrolling volutes frame the composition with graceful Baroque movement.

A finely carved work intended for domestic or convent use, it is a characteristic example of Italian devotional art of the 19th century, inspired by late Baroque models of the previous century
