English Victorian sideboard, 19th century
Height x width x depth: 100 x 104 x 74 cm.
with silvered bronze plaque on the door, two twisted columns supporting the top with pull-out drawer accompanied by marble top. Stamped on the edge of the top drawer "JULIUS.YACOBI 52 REGENT.ST LONDON".
Literature:
Julius Yacoby (active between 1871 and 1882) was a well-known art furniture manufacturer and dealer based at *52 Regent Street, London*. His business was distinguished by producing furniture in the Gothic and Renaissance styles, often made of *carved oak* and sometimes with gilt details. Yacoby collaborated with German craftsmen, such as *L. & S. Lövinson of Berlin*, and his creations were exhibited at important international fairs, including the *Paris World's Fair of 1867*. [1]
