A rare open library, China, Qing Dynasty, 18th century
192 x 98 x 39 cm.
A rare open bookcase from Jiangsu Province made of Jumu wood, with remarkable disproportion. The front of the structural elements is enhanced by a simple molding on the edge, creating a distinct shape on the profile. The shelf panels are also made of Jumu, and the central shelf features two drawers with pendant handles. The surface retains a good patina and a rich honey-toned color typical of quality Jumu. The top features aprons and piping, but the piece is free of unnecessary bars, leaving only open lines that are more pleasing to the eye.
