Pair of wooden ornamental elements, China, early 20th century.
Height 14.5 cm; Length 26 cm
Pair of wooden ornamental furniture elements decorated with lightly relief figures and paintings: on the back, a Jianding wax stamp and an old label written in Chinese.
In the 1980s and 1990s, ancient objects exported from China were subject to a stamp or seal issued by the Chinese authorities. This stamp, known as jianding ๆฃๅฎ, was an inspection seal indicating that the object had been approved for export and had legally left China. This practice was part of the Chinese government's efforts to control the export of cultural heritage and protect valuable works.
