Composition with shells and bronze cherub, France, second half of the 19th century

Height x width x depth: 31 x 16.5 x 16.5 cm
At the base is a large shell (Turbo marmoratus), on which sits a finely modelled bronze cherub. The cherub holds a smaller shell on its head, creating a harmonious play of proportions and verticality. At the junction between the cherub's head and the upper shell is a row of small natural pearls. This piece is representative of the production intended for collections and cabinets of curiosities, in which the fusion of natural elements and metal sculpture testifies to great craftsmanship and decorative taste.
