Ivory Corpus Christi, France, late 17th - early 18th century
Total weight: 5430 g
carved in the round and composed of four joined parts: the body of Christ, which follows the curvature of the tusk, the arms, and the drapery of the loincloth.
Height x width x depth frame: 66 x 54.5 x 6.5 cm
The body of Jesus is taut in the drama of sacrifice, with the muscles of his torso and limbs approximately sculpted. The nailed hands convey a sense of pain and resignation, while the head falls back on the right side, slightly towards the back with the open mouth and the open, suffering eyes turned to heaven, evoking the last breath and sealing a moment of intense spirituality.
The soft, curly hair and beard fall on the shoulders framing the face.
The sculpted bust allows a glimpse of the muscles and ribs, while the legs show the tension of the figure, leading the gaze to the feet contracted downwards and nailed together, reinforcing the idea of the torment suffered.
The loincloth is supported by a double cord visible on the right side, sculpted with a refined play of flowing, draped folds, knotted on the right side from which a large, drooping drape emerges. The crucifix is set within a gilded frame, thus enhancing the devotional and artistic value of the work. In the background, a rich red velvet contrasts with the figure of Christ on the cross.
Height x width x depth frame: 66 x 54.5 x 6.5 cm
Height x width x depht Crist: 35 (37.5) x 22 x 4 cm
Arms width: 22 cm
